Microsoft
FrontPage Server Extensions
What is Microsoft
FrontPage?
Microsoft FrontPage
is a leading web design tool which enables users to create and
manage a sophisticated web site without any programming knowledge.
As well as providing
an easy to use HTML editor, it also provides templates and wizards
to help create individual pages and even entire web sites. FrontPage
users can also delve into the exciting new world of "Push"
technology by using a Channel Definition (CDF) Wizard.
To take full
advantage of FrontPage, BT WebWorld customers can now have the FrontPage
Server Extensions added to their accounts. These Extensions will
allow you to use the more advanced FrontPage features on your web
site.* Features include:-
- Full-Text
Search Engine: allows a user to search your site for specific
information.
- Feedback
Forms: creating forms to capture and validate user details is
easy.
- Discussion
Groups: allows users to participate in interactive discussion
forums.
- Remote Site
Management: provides remote authoring capabilities and hyperlink
verification.
- One-Touch
Publishing: provides the facility to upload your web site to the
BT WebWorld server with the minimum of fuss.
- Table of
Contents: provide a complete index to your site to aid end user
navigation. The tables of contents is automatically updated every
time you add or delete a page.
Existing BT
WebWorld customers already have access to a wide range of advanced
tools to develop their web site - including RealAudio/RealVideo
capability and even an Internet shopping application called Storefront.
With the addition of FrontPage Server Extensions, BT WebWorld now
offers one of the most comprehensive hosting services around.
Where can
I find out more about Microsoft FrontPage?
You can obtain
more information directly from the Microsoft web site at http://www.eu.microsoft.com/frontpage/
(there is also a UK specific site at http://www.microsoft.com/uk/frontpage/).
How
much does it cost?
Microsoft FrontPage
can be purchased directly from all leading software vendors.
Existing BT WebWorld customers can request the FrontPage Server
Extensions to be added to their account. This service is free to
BT WebWorld customers.
How do I
apply for the FrontPage Server Extensions service?
You will need
to obtain a BT WebWorld account before you can use the Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions.
If you do not have a BT WebWorld account, please go to our Register page and complete the appropriate
registration form (adding your request for FrontPage Extensions
in the Comments area).
Your web site
will be available immediately upon successful registration, and
we will advise you by e-mail when the FrontPage Server Extensions
have been added to your account (normally within 1 working day).
Existing
BT WebWorld customers can request the FrontPage Server Extensions
directly from the Members
area.
* For
security reasons, the FrontPage Administration functions have been
disabled. However, you can use BT WebWorld's advanced built-in functionality
instead to change your password and create/manage closed user groups.
It is also worth noting that Microsoft FrontPage does not support
the database integration feature on a Unix platform. Consequently,
this feature will not be available as BT WebWorld's service is based
on a high performance Unix platform.
